Kyoko Tamada has developed a signature style influenced by Japanese Miyabi culture. Miyabi is one of the oldest of the traditional Japanese aesthetic ideals, passed down from the Heian Period a thousand years ago. Tamada expresses poetry and calligraphy from the Heian Period in her artwork, and uses colours typical of this era. But instead of using textiles or paper as her medium for expression, the artist uses glass, thus combining long-standing Japanese traditions with contemporary glass art.
