Yuuka Kawakita

Yuuka Kawakita has loved the material of glass from a very early age, and enjoyed collecting pieces she found in the streets. She first started working with glass in 1994, making beads using the lampworking technique where a torch is used to melt the glass. In 2002, she established an independent studio together with her husband Hidemi Kawakita, a woodworking artist.

Kawakita loves the feel of melted glass through the tools that she holds. The motifs of her pieces are influenced by the Japanese nature she sees around her. She absorbs the seasons and the colours and reproduces these in her works, believing that everything she sees is a gift from nature.

In 2006, her work was selected for an exhibition at the Beads Museum in Arizona, hosted by the International Society of Glass Beadmakers.
