Japanese Glass | Yo Yamazaki
Yo Yamazaki was born in the Yamanashi prefecture, brought up in the mountains surrounded by nature. She studied glass art at Tama Art University and worked for glass studios in Suwa and Lake Kawaguchi before becoming an independent artist based back in Yamanashi.
Her work is widely exhibited at art galleries, department stores and museums throughout Japan.
Her signature style is detailed painting on blown glass. Her main theme is nature, designing motifs such as plants, trees and small animals that she finds on her door steps.
‘I was off sick for few months at the age of 30’, Yamazaki recalls. ‘I think it influenced me a lot about what I paint. At the time, I was very much touched by the beauty and the strength of nature around me. Ever since, I have been painting plants on my glass work’.
