Hana Vase

Regular price £1,600.00 Sale

The Hana ('flower') Vase by Miya Kitamura was made by first blowing glass to form the shape of the bottle. Kitamura then applied poppy shaped masking on the surface and sandblasted the glass. The masked poppies were left shiny compared the rest of the vase which was left textured with a smoky effect.

A little subtle colour was subsequently applied to the middle parts of the flowers. Kitamura wanted to create the impression of an illusion - something that cannot be seen too clearly, like a fading memory. The artist wanted to express a sense of memory, where the shape may be lost, but certain aspects such as smell, emotion or texture never fade.
